The Vatican is about to publish documents it has in its possession about the Knights Templar. For those of you who follow the Templar stories, this should shed some light on some of the conspiracy theories that have been running around for what seems like the longest time.

The Knights Templar, a religious order established in Jerusalem in 1118, grew in power during the Crusades, and became a formidable military and political force in Europe in the 12th and 13th century. In the early 14th century, under pressure from the French monarchy, Pope Clement V forcibly suppressed the order.

I've seen a few of these reports floating around on the net lately about John Paul the great refusing a feeding tube and for some weird reason choosing a round about euthanasia. The vatican came out with an official statement about this recently. You can catch it at EWTN's link here: EWTN News

In an article Dr. Lina Pavanelli questioned the reasons for which John Paul II received nourishment from a feeding tube “only” starting on March 30, 2005, three days before his death. Pavanelli said the Pope clearly needed this treatment earlier. She claimed the Pope chose not to receive adequate nourishment in order to weaken himself and die in a sort of “assisted suicide.” Vatican officials told the Associated Press that the Pope did in fact use a feeding tube before March 30 but that it was not made known officially until that day. They pointed out Pavanelli has not had access to the Pope’s medical records and that her accusations are based merely on media reports. Father Thomas Williams told CBS News that euthanasia “is the intentional acceleration of the death of a person. And, I think, to allege that they intentionally accelerated Pope John Paul's death is really farfetched.

It looks like Fox news picked up on this story as well. The Vatican doesn't kid about these things everyone.

Hebert said the sect's members believe that its 86-year-old founder, Marie Paule Giguere, is the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary and that God speaks directly through her. Excommunication bars the nuns from participating in the church liturgy and receiving communion or other sacraments. The diocese said the action was taken after the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a declaration dated July 11 that the Army of Mary's teachings were heretical and automatically excommunicated any who embraced the doctrine.

I am still having trouble understanding why people are not taking the vatican warnings on things like this seriously. Today I came across this story by a local station in Little Rock:

The Diocese of Little Rock announced Wednesday that six Catholic nuns in Hot Springs have been excommunicated for heresy. Reverend Monsignor Gaston Hebert says the excommunication is the result of the sisters knowingly and deliberately embracing the doctrine of the Army of Mary. Monsignor Hebert told the press Wednesday he'd met with all six women a week ago, asking for them to reconsider and return to the Catholic faith. After meeting with the six again Tuesday night, the decision for automatic excommunication was made. As part of the excommunication, Our Lady of Charity and Refuge is no longer viewed as a Catholic institution.

There are some new things appearing on the page today. I have added a section on some blogs that I regularly visit. I have also removed some old links that have gone by the wayside. I have considered taking down some of the essays until I can clean them up a bit. I want to also add more references to church documents that make similar points in order to make it easy to reference documents externally.

The last thing I would ever want to do is to mistakenly write anything that could be misunderstood, or to sway away from any aspect of Catholic teaching. Holy mother church has given us documents, and far be it from me to misinterpret or to misguide anyone in any way.

If you are a teacher of the faith or an ordained minister, please by all means put comments on any of these links as you see fit. I read every comment created as they come in to avoid spam, so every word will be read as it arrives.

In the past, there have been some incidents of people making references to this site. Many have misquoted this site on many occasions, and many others have linked to the page saying that it was incorrect on some aspect of Church teaching, but they have never actually attempted to point out specifics. Make your case, or remain silent.

With that out of the way, I hope everyone enjoys the new links, and please let me know how the site is coming along. God bless.

I noticed a formatting error with some web browsers today. This has been fixed. I am slowly getting everything back to one piece here at the site. Hopefully over the next few weeks we will have a working page again. Some of the formatting did not copy over well from the old to the new hosting provider, but I am working on it bit by bit. Stay tuned for more details!
